Emergency Pet Care

We hope that your pet never has to experience a health emergency. But if they do, we’ll make them our highest priority during our regular office hours. We know that emergencies can be extremely stressful for both pets and the people who love them, which is why we do everything possible to accommodate their needs. It is also important that you call us if you have questions and are not sure whether your pet needs urgent treatment. For the sake of safety, don’t hesitate to call us at 765-552-9851.

Is My Pet Having an Emergency?

Emergencies do not always present themselves in a dramatic and obvious way. Look for these signs, which should help you know whether a phone call or emergency trip to our practice is necessary:

  • Difficulty breathing (panting heavily, wheezing, choking)
  • Straining or unable to urinate/pass stool
  • Ongoing vomiting/diarrhea
  • Blood in stool/vomit
  • Bleeding from nose and/or ears
  • Has not eaten or had water for 24 hours
  • Unable to stand or walk
  • Crying out in pain
  • Attacked by an animal
  • Lacerations and puncture wounds
  • Staggering/stumbling
  • Sitting or standing with head pressed against the wall
  • Abdomen is hard and swollen
  • Ingested toxins or a choking hazard

Who to Contact for After-Hours Emergency Pet Care

If our office is closed for the day, don’t worry! You can call or take your pet directly to VCA Northwood Animal Hospital, which offers 24/7 supervision in its Critical Care unit.
