Diagnostics

Diagnostics play a big part in helping us set a baseline of health for your pet and detecting abnormal changes that would not be noticeable to the naked eye. They are especially important when considering the fact that dogs and cats generally conceal any signs of pain or sickness whenever possible.

At Elwood Animal Hospital, we want to understand your pet’s needs so we can give them the best care, year after year, and give you peace of mind about their health. Call us at 765-552-9851 for your next consultation.

Our In-House Laboratory At Elwood

Our doctors and technicians work daily with our advanced in-house laboratory equipment to evaluate blood, fecal, and urine samples. Yearly lab testing for your pet is essential to their continued wellness, and to helping prevent the onset or progression of an underlying illness.

Some of the tests we employ to assess your pet’s condition include:

  • Parasite screens—every pet should be tested yearly for heartworms, intestinal worms, and tick-borne diseases
  • Complete blood cell count (CBC)
  • Comprehensive blood panels that provide insight into the functioning of your pet’s major organs
  • Blood chemistry—for measuring certain substances in the body including glucose, proteins, fats, and electrolytes

Digital Radiography

X-rays have come a long way. Elwood Animal Hospital uses digital radiography equipment for higher-quality X-ray images and a less stressful experience for our patients. X-ray appointments take less time than they would if we used traditional film X-ray, and there is far less radiation involved.

Another advantage of digital X-ray is that it gives us the ability to email X-ray images to other doctors or specialists in a matter of seconds. This means quicker diagnosing and treatment for pets that are urgently in need of care.
